With the stable core system, in 2008 the focus was mainly on enriching user
experience. VmwAROS continued to deliver preconfigured AROS environment,
while applications like OWB and MPlayer brought new functionalities to user
land.

Adam Chodorowski took the time to build a nice set of PNG icons, based on the
Gnome "Gorilla" icon set, to show this new AROS feature off. You can also see
the new Wanderer preference program, which right now lets you just change the
backgrounds of the desktop and directory windows, but will later on allow to
customize other of Wanderer's features.
Also notice that all fonts are antialiased.

UAE, Zune and gcc at work.

Zune is getting better and better! Now thanks to Georg Steger we have more
classes implemented, as you can see. You can also see gcc compiling one
of the test programs for the new implemented classes.

Two instances of UAE running at the same time, showing both the Picasso96 and
the chipset emulation at work. UAE for AROS is a Zune application, its graphic
output and input handling is in effect done with the help of a custom class
made just for the occasion.
A fully qualified GUI is in the work by Adam Chodorowski.

Here we have some new features in icon.library. You can see the new effect for
selected icons (the "S" directory is selected here, and therefore brighter
than the other icons). The icon labels are now draw with an outline, to be
visible even on dark backgrounds (this will ofcourse be user configurable in
the future).
Also, we can see the file identification in action: the text
files in the "S" directory get special def_Text icons, while the file
"AROS.png" gets the generic project icon. We don't have many icons right now,
but if they were available "AROS.png" would get a def_Picture icon (or even
a def_PNG icon, if it was available).

The UberPaint 4p bitmap drawing program, recently ported to AROS (which was
fairly easy as it uses SDL). As you can see, it's a Deluxe Paint clone. You

Here are two older screenshots from programs which at that time still ran
directly in an X window, because a layers.library did not yet exist. At this
time each AROS window mapped to an X window. Today when AROS is running hosted
under Linux an X window represents an AROS screen.
